Best Malayalam Movies of 2014- Part II

I know all of you are waiting anxiously for the second part of this post.Well, the waiting is over and here is the concluding part.

5.How Old Are You (Rosshan Andrrews)-
This was Manju Warrier’s come back vehicle and did little damage to her reputation as a performer and a popular actress.Though nowhere close to Sreedevi’s ‘English Vinglish’ in terms of entertainment quotient or it’s aesthetics,’How Old Are You’ was strikingly original and went down well with it’s target audience. The movie was one of the biggest family hits of 2013 with the ‘Vijanathayil Pathivazhi..’ song turning out to be a chartbuster.
4.Bangalore Days (Anjali Menon)-
One of the most hyped movies of the year,’Bangalore Days’ also turned out to be one of the most successful flicks of the passing year.Though it had a star studded cast(Fahad Fazil,Dulquer Salman et al),it was Nivin Pauly as the small town boy who charmed everyone with his innocence and impeccable comic timing.Anjali Menon’s packaging and hummable songs composed by Gopi Sundar made it an instant hit.
3.Sapthamasree Thaskaraha (Anil Radhakrishnan Menon)-
Succesful heist movies are quite rare in Malayalam.Unlike Mohanlal’s much hyped dud ‘Mr Fraud’,’Sapthamasree..’ didn’t resort to much gimmicks or technical wizardry to prove it’s point.A simple tale of revenge,’Sapthamasree..’ was competently executed and adequately promoted.Prithviraj, though had nothing much to do in the movie did well for himself and for the Malayalam movie industry by producing and marketing this small movie.
2.Vellimoonga (Jibu Jacob)-
This Biju Menon starrrer was the most successful movie of 2013 if you look at it in terms of it’s Return of Investment(ROI).An entertaining script, brilliant execution and a knock out performance from it’s leading man,Biju Menon ensured that the movie got it’s much deserved success. The movie reminded had an inherent charm and honesty which was quite reminiscent of the Satyan Anthikkad-Sreenivasan movies of the 90s.
1.Munnariyippu (Venu)-
This movie opened to mixed reviews when it released in August.C.K.Raghavan was one of the most haunting characters which Mammootty had portrayed in the recent years.Though the movie deserved a little bit of trimming in it’s second half, with it’s unexpected climax it shocked one and all and also managed to get a place in this list.
