It was like a slap on my face.Thankfully Arun was not there with me to witness by embarassement. I was all set to call him when some random piece of paper with a phone number written on it from my pocket caught my attention.

Book Review:Salvation Of a Saint

On the whole,’The Salvation Of Saint’ is a decent thriller. It may not be as racy as ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’,but still it’s a pretty good one.

A Pimply Affair!

Image:Shutter Stock
"A post about pimples? Boy,you should be kidding me!"

This would have been my first reaction if somebody had asked me to write a full-length post on pimples say ,some five years ago.Like many of the fellow  XYs,I too used to dismiss  them  and their  inevitable sequelae (i.e. the dark untidy scars that they left behind) as something which would bother only the members of the fairer sex.But the last couple of years were kind of an eye opener for me.This sudden enlightenment could be attributed to two things.

First and foremost,it was during this period that I became 'eligible'(obviously, for marriage!what else?!).Well after reading this, don't get me wrong.I didn't become a billionaire or anything overnight,it's just that I attained the age which is traditionally considered as  ripe  for marriage(for men).Once you are thirty, the market crashes, you know!Okay,a detailed discussion on that,I reserve for some other day!Once that realisation dawns, the panic sets in.You suddenly realise that you have been leading a shabby, unorganised life all this while and as a result  become  more self aware. It's also during this phase that you start seeing all those black spots, dark marks, acne scars and pimples on your face in a totally different light altogether. You not only start stumbling  across all those weird news paper reports, during a random web browsing session  but also commence projecting  those huge papular eruption on your face(neglecting the fact that they have been there on your face since you were a toddler) to the evil spell cast on you by your jealous ex-girl friend/lover.Well,I was also no different.(May be the 'evil spell'part doesn't hold good in my case, but the rest allwere there!)All kinds of crazy thoughts started clogging my head.Adding to the woes, that ugly pimple on my face had started growing more vigorously. With each passing day,it became bigger and bigger and started resembling  like a volcano which was ready to erupt, spreading all it's dirty lava in the near by vicinity.Man,it was the limit.I decided to call upon my dermatologist friend,Dr Rajan.

"Rajan,I've a problem"

"Parayeda,What happened?"

"Dude,I have decided to get married"

"Oh,that's sad.But why have you called me for this? You should consult a psychiatrist for that.I cannot prescribe 'those' drugs. And please don't go after those shady, dubious 'capsules' which you see in the newspapers"

"Shit….It's not that.My problem is….I have got pimples"

"ha ha!Oh..njan pedichu poyi. That's not a big deal.Start cleansing your face with luke warm water every day, keep your face clean all the time, devoid of any traces of oil.If the pimples aren't many, no need to use any topical antibiotics.May be you can try one of those commercially available face washes to keep your face clean.Trya reputed, time tested brand, don't go after those 'mokka' ones"

"Ok da,Thanks"

It's three weeks now after that conversation.Dr Rajan is quite competent,I must say.His advice has worked.I can sleep peacefully now.

But the million dollar question is-when will I meet the rani of my dreams?

The Great Indian 'Peace Talks'

Indian Politics has become as predictable as a boring Madhur Bhandarkar movie. Its only the lead actors and the props that changes once in a while(in 5 years, to be exact). The story, screenplay, the net result and everything else is exactly the same all the time.During their spare time,(i.e. when they aren't busy reading 'The Warren Buffet way')  our Prime Ministers indulge in their favourite pastime-the 'India-Pakisthan bhai-bhai thing';invites someone from our neighbouring country(which sends men in fishing boats to do research on the Indian fishing industry every now and then)for a cup of coffee, discusses matters of critical importance like 'the changing patterns of North East Monsoon','the mating habits of the Polar Bears and it's influence on the Global warming' to name a few.

Meanwhile nikhimenon has got exclusive access to one of the new 'leaked' wiki leaks cable. This one is a 'conversation' between the Prime Ministers of two neighbouring countries.Apparently they were watching a cricket match between the nations ,they represent.

Singh: Bro, happy to see you after a long time...
Ghee-laa-Nee:(as if he has met his long lost brother)-,Bhai,Kaisa hai aap?
Singh: So,Wassup?
Ghee-laa-Nee: Thank you for the invite.Had been looking forward to this meeting.
Singh: Ever since the 26/11 thing, we had been asking you to...
Ghee-laa-Nee:(interrupts) Whom do you think will win today's match?
Singh: Ooh,MSD and his team for sure...but we have got pretty convincing evidence that the terror attacks against our country are being masterminded in your soil.
Ghee-laa-Nee(in an animated expression):Afridi is bowling well,right?
Singh:(sighs)So we would like to  interrogate Mr Hafiz Mohammad Saeed  in connection with the 26/11 attacks.
Ghee-laa-Nee(with eyes closed as if he is in a trance):That guy from kochi,cock-aa-coo man, what's his name, haan 'Sseeshaanth',is he not playing in today's match?
Singh: Let's discuss about Kashmir then,we have got evidence about Pak sponsored militant groups operating in Kashmir.
Ghee-laa-Nee: Yeah, Kashmir is a beautiful place! (sips coffee), Btw i heard things are not that well there. Some flag issue and violence? It's horrible that people resort to this kind of violence these days, right?
Singh: Mr Ghee-laa-Nee,the issue here is not that.I'm talking about Pak sponsored terror in the Indian soil.
Ghee-laa-Nee: ( mobile rings, picks up the phone)Hello, who is this?Who, hafiz Saeed ? (the tone changes,to a whisper)What?Mumbai?(with a horrified expression) No, not now.I am here in India, very much near Mumbai, lets postpone it to someother day.
Singh: I would like to hand over the 26/11 Dossier to you.
Ghee-laa-Nee:(pretending never ever he has heard the word ‘Dossier’)-..? Dosa, wow! I love Masala Dosa.Btw i would like to meet Mr Rajani Kanth, the robot....
Singh:(slowly losing his patience )-I said, you people should stop funding for militant groups like Let.
Ghee-laa-Nee:What are you talking about Mr Singh?I said,I have come here to promote Cricket?
Singh:(agitated)WTF, Cricket is already a rage here.It doesn’t need your promotion.Let’s talk about Kashmir,Terrorism et al.
Ghee-laa-Nee:R.S.S.,R.S.S.,R.S.S. (walks out in a fit of rage)

Two days later

A bomb explodes somewhere in the suburbs of Maharashtra,31 kms from Mumbai.Panic sets in.The Home Minister and the P.M. release their statements which read something like this..

“ NO MORE TALKS WITH PAKISTHAN UNTIL THEY STOP sTATE SPONSORED TERRORISM IN INDIA"

A Rape and it's Aftermath

In an unfortunate incident,a twenty something girl   lost her life.A shocking one indeed. What worries us more is the fact that this happened not in Mayawati's U.P or Omar Abdulla's J&k but in our God's own country.

Some random thoughts on the possible repercussions of this incident.

1.Right from Ms Sara Joseph to our neighbour 'Shantha' chechi gives statements to the media on the horrors of travelling alone in a train.

2.The 'christian' channel,'the muslim' channel and the 'secular' channel sympathise with the girl only to resume their fight over the spilt ice ceam a few days later.

3.The Chief Minister assures the public that he would put all the rapists behind the bars sooner or later.

4.The 'Party' channel launches a sting operation while the 'secular' channel cries fowl.

5.The hindu party demands judicial enquiry into the mishap whereas the women organisations want the C.B.I to do a dummy experiment.

6.The Blame game starts: -The media blame the police. They inturn accuse the railway officials who on the other hand put the blame on the girl herself for travelling alone in the train.

7.'ABC' commission headed by the retired high court judge begins their probe on the accident.Six months later, submits a 10,999 page report to the government which is read by none.

8.The channels start pondering on more serious issues like this.

9.Shaji Kailas and S.N Swamy announce a movie titled 'Trainile Kolacase'.

10.Someone else gets raped,repeat 1 to 10.

      The 'indecent' breasts...

      thought by nikhimenon@gmail.com

The Einsteins at the I&B (on whom even the C.I.A. relies upon for newer 'live'strategies in combating terror)  have come up with yet another revelation that might change even the genetics of humanity.According to a press release made by the I&B day before yesterday, women with  nude upper body are offending  good taste and decency.

Women will have mammary glands and as long as there are straight men and non-straight  women living in this planet, there will be takers for it.These are just plain facts of life and how does a woman with attractive breasts denigrate the female gender? I am pretty sure that  even the hardcore male chauvinists won't stand by Madam Ambika Sony if mass mastectomy is what she is advocating for.C'mmon, when did we become such a regressive lot? At one point we are passing Women's Reservation Bill ,for giving birth to more and more Indiras and Mayawatis(honestly,i personally believe that the whole concept of reserving seats for women will only serve to bring forth more number of Rabri Devis and P.Padmajas...). In this era when even bizarre things are at a click away ,the concern for children also seems irrevelant.By resorting to  idiotic measures like these Ambika soni and her friends seem to be going the Shiv sena way.

"My Name is Tharoor and I am not an Idiot"

      thought by nikhimenon@gmail.com.

After his 'thuqlaq'-ean remark on Nehru's foreign policy, our Mos for external affairs,Mr. Shashi Tharoor is back with yet another idiotic' statement urging Saudi Arabia to be the interlocutor in Indo-Pak ties.Tharoor saab, we understand that you are a busy man and you seldom get time to read the news papers, but please remind  your private secretary to inform you about the happenings in India atleast before you resort to make such stupid statements. We honestly think that it might help you in avoiding getting pained at 'such' inaccurate reportings later.

The most 'irritating' kids on tv....!

      nikhimenon@gmail.com

I’m fed up of watching (precocious) kids on TV who perform acts that don’t fit their age. It  seems that there’s a new belief among parents of the kids (irrespective of being in the North/South/East or West of the  nation) who perform on TV. The thicker the glasses the kid wears, the more bladder mouthed the kid is,the cuter he/she looks. First, there was that irritating girl who hosted that stupid  live phone- in -progamme which aired your 'favourite film songs' and then almost every channel started airing such shows.(Thankfully, one of those girls has started  playing  the female lead in movies..seriously request my readers not to sue her parents for 'promoting child labour or even paedophilia') Just as the TRP s started sliding a bit, they soon came up with those 'highly entertaining'  junior singing shows which were instrumental in giving Shanker Mahadevans ,Jesudases and even Himesh Reshamiyas' a run for their money!

I strongly stand for imprisoning parents of such kids who make their kids dance to the shittiest filmi songs and make them crack obscene jokes (which I bet the kids don’t understand themselves; or am I too backward?).

What do you think? Do you find the kids  ’shoo schweeeeet/cuuuuuutttteee’ or you find them annoying as I do?  Feel free to comment.
