On the whole,’The Salvation Of Saint’ is a decent thriller. It may not be as racy as ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’,but still it’s a pretty good one.

Raajneeti

thought by nikhimenon@gmail.com

Waking up  on one lazy sunday afternoon and with my eyes falling on the web page of rediff,i chanced upon the news related to the on going fued between India's most revered 'secular' politician ,Nitish Kumar ji and the country's 'maut' ka saudagar 'Narendra Modi'.While the news may be as important as Akki Bhai hosting cookery show on tv, it leaves us with a lot to ponder about.
At a time, when even Nitin Gadkari remembers BJP as a thing of the past ,Narendra Modi is definitely one of the few crowd pullers left in the party . Even Laluji and his beewi Raabri didi might stand by me if i confess that Nitishji is not idiotic enough to believe that those pretty souls who still vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party are doing so for they have been smitten by the verbal prowess of the iron man Arun Jaitely or the charisma of Sushamaji.

So in one way or another, the  party ( with a president who faints on witnessing the rising prizes  ' in our beloved country)has got only a handful of leaders whom the janta see  worth voting for and Modi is undoubtedly one among them. This is why Nitish Ji's claim that he has allied only with the party(read BJP) and the only Modi that he has heard of  is Lalith Modi  ends up as nothing but a desperate attempt at wooing the muslim voters of the state. It has also become clear that once Nitish can stand on his own (atleast after the up coming elections) he will ditch his coalition partner (BJP) ruthlessly. There is nothing wrong in playing the vote bank politics as that's what our politics is all about of late.Maya didi practises it with the dalits,Mulayam and Lalu ji does it with the muslims and the yadavs,BJP used to play it successfully with the brahmins and the upper caste hindus  and even the Congress doesn't wish to displease the christian and the muslim vote banks.

The major problem in the present political scenario is that apart from the ruling party(obviously the congress) every other national/regional parties have clearly lost the plot and the only thing that they are looking forward to is to get into power by hook or crook. While the Congress has wisely made use of it's lucky mascot Mr.Rahul Gandhi  to draw in the young and the not so young voters(to whom he stands as a sign of possible change) the Nitish Kumars and the didis seem to be still comfortable in playing the same card again and again. The BJP should realise that Modi worked wonders for them (atleast in Gujarat)playing the development card safely in the subsequent elections and what they need are smart energetic leaders like the late Pramod Mahajan who can not only sustain the alliances but also prevent them from  embarassing acts like what Nitish did last day.

The political parties in India should realize that the citizens have clearly lost interest in the politics of hate and religion. What they are looking forward to is development and change. If the BJP wants to offer themselves as an effective alternative to the Congress in the centre ,they should come up with  an imaginative new agenda that includes not just politics but  that dream of change that can inspire young people to take them seriously and not just gimmicks like these to keep themselves in news.C'mmon  if your partner has no faith  in you  even, how can you expect it from the common man?

Some Random things I Learnt Through The Movie 'Badmaash Company'

reviewed by nikhimenon@gmail.com

  • An intelligent, virtuous, middle class boy can turn a smuggler if he sees his mother selling her bangles.
  • Hindi Cinema still means foreign locales, a smooch between the leads, a bikini for the heroine and a virtuous mummy-daddy jodi for Yashraj Films.
  • If you have a shirt that loses it's colour with every wash, you can wear it daily and still convince your friends that you are wearing a new shirt everyday.
  • Anoushka Sharma doesnt have attractive breasts.
  • Getting a bank loan in a foreign country is easier than buying a pen from the local department store.
  • Shahid Kapoor  can not only do the dimple cheeked, smile to the side thing ( SRK and his Red chillies hasn't patented it,right?!)with elan but can also drink his 'chai' from the saucer with his boyish grin intact.
  • Marriage with a 'gora' prostitute  is all what it takes to make a skirt chaser to an ideal husband overnight(as demonstrated by the character played by Veer Das).
  • Udhay Chopra is not the most irritating thing which Yash Chopra has produced so far.
  • Even at this age,Anupam Kher can deliver long 'moral science' speeches about family values (infront of a reasonable crowd) .

What will you do if 'she' decides to marry some random Guy?

    b)   will buy the dvd of Dev D and start sympathizing with him.

    c)    try to convince her that her bride groom has an 'affair' with 'Rakhi Sawant'....(if that's not offending enough,Rakhi can be substituted with a 'Sherlyn Chopra' or a 'Meghna Naidu')

    d) will download more porn .

    e)All of the above.

PS: 'She' in this context refers to any female who was a courter/flame/preyasi/premika/kamuki/pranayini.

    First Look:Malarvadi Arts Club

    nikhimenon@gmail.com

In a previous post,we had lamented about the dearth of fresh, energetic stories in Malayalam. It seems that all is not lost yet for Malayalam Cinema. An upcoming movie titled ‘Malarvadi  Arts Club’ directed by Vineeth Srinivasan and produced by actor Dileep(may be as an apology for the horrendous movies that he has been giving us of  late) definitely shows some promise.Malarvadi has the potential to become this year’s big monsoon winner since malayalees are ready to accept even anything half decent, in these days of , Thanthoni s and Pramani s.With a fresh lead cast ably supported by some of the  veterans in the field like Nedumudi Venu,Jagathy Sreekumar and Salim Kumar the movie is tentatively scheduled for a July release.
The music of the movie came out two days back (composed by Shaan Rehman, the man behind last year’s successful album,Coffee at MG Road and the Mammooty film,‘Ee Pattanathil Bhootham’).I must admit that they sound really fresh and youthful with some genuinely funny lyrics(for instance, the Kashmala track),unlike the cut and copy ones ditched out by the National award winner(thankfully not for his tunes) M.G.Sreekumar for  Vineeth’s dad’s big movie with Mohanlal,’Oru Naal Varum’.In his blog,Vineeth admits that he has found inspiration for his debut movie in the popular American show,Friends and promises that his movie would be an entertaining one.
Let’s hope that the movie turns out to be as good as its promos.

    The Intellectuals of Dandewada.....!

    nikhimenon@gmail.com

    //I salute people of Dantewada-

The Maoist menace in Central India is slowly becoming  a grave threat to India's internal security .When there are takers for it in 'intellectuals' like Ms.Arundathy Roy (whose claim to fame is nothing but a highly over hyped book which came out some good ten years ago)and those ' bearded men who sit in the Tv studios demanding justice for the tribals/maoists this is not going to die down soon.
There is no denial of the fact that the whole issue is a bit complicated one and an amicable solution should be sort out at the earliest for the tribals too have their share of woes.As P Chidambaram had rightly said,a full on military move would  only prove detrimental in the end and should not be the first choice for combating this terror. But with each passing day,the Maoists' actions are turning more and more violent and becoming far from justifiable.
C'mmon, What are you really achieving by  killing a few innocent Policemen and depriving their women and children of their livelihood ? And who is the loser in this whole exercise? The Government? No way....Will 'Ms Arundathy '  salute these Violence seekers if her husband or Brother was killed by the Maoists?(oops..sorry,'intellectuals' like her never marry for whatever reasons') .Does an apology really matter ,for the families of those innocent victims ? Kishenji might have thought otherwise though!
Violence in any form should be condemned,be it by the Lashkar Men or the Maoists. If the Maoists are justifying their deeds 'as a natural response to the state injustice towards the tribals', how can you blame the poor 'fanatic Lashkar men' and the AL Qaeda souls who are carrying out the insanity for 'Jihad' thereby killig Millions of Muslims, hindus and Christians in the process? The ruling parties might be getting political mileage through these incidents but at the end of the day ,it's we ,the civilians who are at the receiving end.

    The algebra of infinite entertainment….!

    thought by nikhimenon@gmail.com

The year so far has been a rather panauthy one for  the Malayalam film industry .While the George ‘Thanthonny’ Vargheses and the Mammas ‘es tried their best to give nightmares for  cinegoers   in the theaters, the veterans in the field like Shaji Kailas,Kamal and Siddique also didn’t want to be left too far behind. Thanks, to the  combined effort of these really talented people, malayali grew  wiser enough to care neither about masterpieces like ‘Cheriya Kallanum vallya police’,Annarakannanum Thannalayathu,Kadaksham et al nor about the cineplexes screening anything remotely  related to a Malayalam movie. While Thilakan hallucinated about some random things, Sukumar Azheekodu found a reason for his verbal diarrhoea. The theatre owners realized that if they go on screening gems like these, they would soon afflict themselves with some weird mental illness which Karan Johar would swiftly make Shah Rukh Khan suffer from in his next film. The producers  association and AMMA,(who had earlier banned shah rukh from their organization for forcing keralites to watch his films) on the other hand fantasized themselves receiving  the President’s bravery award for not having succumbed  to the crooked  tactics of the theatre owners.Meanwhile  the malayali kids  safely enjoyed Vijay and Tamannah dancing their way to glory in theatres during their mid summer vacation.  Anyways let us look at some of the most awesomely awesome products that Malayalam cinema has produced this year so far.As a tribute to their unaccomplished talent we are also giving out awards for each genre.
Most Awesome Romantic Movie:- The Award- The  knife used by Aamir Khan to kill himself in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.
    Winner: Body Guard .
What could be more romantic than Mr.Prabhudeva flying all the way from Chennai to Kochin to make his sweetheart’s on- screen hero  learn the nuances of Natya Shasthra? What indeed is  more awesomely awesome than watching Dileep playing a college student for whom an all dressed up Nayans falls for?Everything associated with the movie is top- notch. There is that trendy safari suite of Dileep which has become a rage among the college going urban crowd. There is the  ultra cool Nayans who emotes as if she is in the sets of some dubbed Malayalam film(ofcourse minus the short skirts and the tight Ts).To top it all you have a Salem Vishnu(sometimes referred to as bhagyaraaj) with a face that is as wooden as the sofa in your drawing room ,as Nayan’s father .The climax of the movie ,as the promos promised is truly shocking and unapologetically original (for those who haven’t watched a flop hindi movie called’kuch kuch hota hai’ directed by some random guy called Karan Johar).
Most Awesome Horror thriller- The Award- kanchivaram saree used by Naagavalli in Manichitrathazhu.
Winner:Drona  2010 .   Simply the last word in horror. Mamootty doubling himself as the handsome hunk (who eventually gets killed by the ‘ghost’)and his astrologist turned Sanskrit pandit turned tantric acharyak brother,Drona (with an extra 2010 added to it ,so that the historians can easily remember the year in which this monumental work of art made it to the theatres) was indeed every horror movie buffs’ delight.
One of the most fantabulous and wildly original scenes of the movie being the one in which the back story of the yakshi aka Thathrikutty played by Dhanya Mary Varghese is shown.Thathrikutty, according to A.K.Sajan and Shaji Kailas  is an extremely learned and wise chick who can even crack the hardest puzzles in the universe.A group of learned Namboothiri men from the rival illam,(dressed up as if they are acting in some doordarshan mythological serials of the ramanand sagar era),try to make her eat humble pie by defeating her in an open quiz. The wise and the smart lad that she is,replies to their final querry that the most titillating emotion in the universe is lust /sex.Big mistake, big fucking mistake! The Namboothiri  men who are aversed to sex and resort to parthenogenesis as their mode of reproduction, becomes furious and questions her virginity.Guess what, the humiliated Thathrikutty commits suicide in the next frame only to become a yakshi later! In the midst of all these, you have bargain basement special effects hacked from The Matrix and the Terminator, bgm which gifts you a good migraine and a theme song, popping up everytime Mamootty walks in slow motion . Fear can indeed never get as frightening,  terrifying, or horrifying. A movie so horrible that you cannot stop  wondering what sinister spirit must have taken control of the big stars who signed on the dotted line. Manoj K jayan , playing a Nagavally in the body of a chanthupottu; Bala,Vijayakumar and Nandhu playing monks.(without an ‘e’ and a ‘y’).Thilakan showing his hatred towards Mammootty  on screen .Everyone associated with the movie were so awesomely awesome that  the audience were even ready to laugh at the intelligent and subtle jokes of Suraaj venjaramoodu.
Most awesome Mass Masala Entertainer: The Award-MCR dhothi used by Mohanlal In Narasimham
Winner:Thanthonni .Post Puthiya Mukham ,Prithviraaj, the youth icon wanted to show his beloved audience that he was superb enough to wear an MCR dhothi revealing his striped inner wear.Hence somebody called George Varghese stepped in to let ‘the style raaj’ run wild on-screen.The result was an immensely entertaining, fantabulously thrilling enterprise called Thanthonni. The script was so genuine and awesomely awesome that a man named Renjith, after seeing Thanthonny (who wrote some duds called Narasimham and Usthaad some years back) became nostalgic about some useless scripts churned out  by himself.Anyways Prithviraaj was happy at the end of the day as he could fulfill some of his fantasies(like to wear a suite in a Malayalam film,to do dishyum dishyum with the villains in the deserts of dubai…) on screen where as the producers of the movie thought how they  could recover their money.

Most awesome Comedy movie: The Award-The hat used by Mohanlal and Srinivasan in Pattana Pravesam.
Winner:Pappy Appacha.  Dileep playing an action hero.Innocent repeating his Manasinakkare act.Kavya Madhavan making herself believe that she is still in the bussiness.Udit Narayan convincing Vidyasaagar about his command over Malayalam language.
    Genuinely hilarious…!

    Love sex aur IPL.....!

    thought by nikhimenon@gmail.com

In a move that might come as a surprise for many 'interlocutors' of the country,Rindaloo sports, the stake holders of the kochi IPL team  has found a new mentor in nikhimenon,a highly succesful blogger and a tweeter from kochi. His blog posts are so widely read and his tweets so awesomely awesome that his twitter page is often considered  a text book of sorts for wannabes like Shashank Thavanoor, the canadian import (who is more interested in the 'external affairs of Kashmiri women' these days ) whom even Rakhi Sawant considers as a potential threat to her 'controversy queen' throne. When contacted, though Ayushman Gaekwaad -the CEO of Rindaloo sports refused to comment on the topic , it is commonly believed that nikhimenon's close proximity with Malith Lody-an avatar of Lord kubera and a champion of "transparency" has bagged him this covetable honour.

However inside sources say that nikhimenon is an apt replacement for Shashank Thavanoor as the mentor/patron of the team as he is still single (thanks to his girl friend Mandakini Murtaza  who found him 'incompatible'  to live happily with her Iranian husband in Yugoslavia )and there are no more Pushpaka Ranis running after him.Meanwhile Malith Lody in an interview to a national news channel yesterday revealed that he had received an e-mail from a Kochiite which requested  him to shift the base of the kochi team to Ahmedabad since the Malayali Samajam in Gujarat wanted to raise funds for their annual 'Malayalee Sanghamam',to be held in Hong Kong later this year.

Bollywood's superstar King Khan ,who was consoled by his neighbour Srane Werne today morning accused that the whole IPL-Kochi-Thavanoor-Lody conflict was  a  cover up for the disastrous performance of Kings XI punjab in the present season of IPL.The Monkey man Sarantkumar Sreerang,a team member of Kings XI has  refuted this allegation and has also expressed his desire to perform his favourite dance number wearing the 'Kochi' cap.

On the otherside, the supporters of Shashank Thavanoor in Thiruvananthapuram, kerala have claimed that Thavanoor is bankrupt and his relation to  Pushpaka Rani  has nothing to do with his desire to patronize the kochi team. They also made the revelation that  Thavanoor had been  the captain of the U.N. cricket team and his interest for cricket started since then.Shashank Pawar, the union minister for Irrigation and Narasimha Lodi the Chief Minister have also supported this statement by saying that cricket is the best sport for Ministers as it helps to relieve stress and strain.

    Paapy Appacha is brutally bland..!

    reviewed by nikhimenon@gmail.com

Thanthonni,Pramani,Janakan,Body Guard,Agathan.....Malayalam cinema has been delivering duds one after the other this year.Dileep's debutant Mammas (mis)directed Paapy Appacha is nothing but a mere addition to this seemingly 'never ending' list. The movie is painfully silly, predictable  and boring to say the least with some mediocre performances by the lead cast.

If  George 'Thanthonny' Varghese's did a cut and paste job on his favourite movies like Usthad,Narasimham,Lelam,Vazhunnor, devasuram and puthiya Mukham to deliver a Thanthonni,Mammas has done the same to Sathyan Anthikkad directed Manasinakkare,Sibi Malayil's Ishtam,Joshiy's Lion and Lelam and served it as a weird 'dish' called Paapy Appacha.

The posters of the movie promised it to be a light hearted tale on the friendship between an illiterate father son duo.But sadly the movie ends up as a b grade flick with cheap/stale jokes( that seldom rises above the standard of silly 'tintumon' kind of sms jokes),loud action scenes , fake melodrama and a predictable climactic twist(which is a routine these days, thanks to lal) that might have worked in the techni colour era.The audio cd of this movie had a couple of melodious numbers tuned by Vidyasaagar like 'Manjin Velli' and 'Thammil Thammil'.For some strange reasons the makers haven't  included these two songs in the movie and there are two other noisy ones instead which can potentially gift you a migraine.

Coming to the performances, Dileep repeats his usual antics and one liners for the nth time with limited success.Innocent is wasted and he has had a better role in Satyan Anthikkad's Manasinakkare with Jayaram.K.P.A.C. Lalitha yells at the top of her voice whenever dileep feels sad and so does the girl who plays Dileep's sister.Kavya Madhavan looks plum and totally unfit for the role.Cinematography was adequate which sanjeev shanker aptly visualising the beauty of melukavu-thodupuzha on screen.Had the editor been sincere to his work, the movie wouldn't have been this much painfully long and for the same reason i dare to accuse the editor for complacency. One of the plus points of the movie(and may be the only one) was the genuinely funny title cards.

    VERDICT: Avoidable.....

    The mediocre Ghost House INN...!

    reviewed by nikhimenon@gmail.com

Making sequels of hit films to cash in on the euphoria created by it's original has been a tried and tested formula for success. But quite often, the sequels turn out to be ultimate disasters like Saagar Alias Jackey or a Senior Mandrake.Lal ,the brain behind the harihar nagar franchise has decided to extend the series with In Ghost House Inn ,which incidentally is the third installment in the series.Though 2 harihar nagar ,which came out last year could entertain us to a large extent, the same cannot be said about 'Ghost House'.

Lal has tried to play it smart this time by setting his sequel in a haunted mansion .Okay,we know you are smart enough  to set the movie in a different background  and attempting an horror comedy is something which is relatively new in the malayalam film industry too.But what if you have only the century old cliches and gimmicks to frighten the audience and the same old antics of Appukuttan to invoke laughter from the audience?Smelling mediocricity?  That's exactly what 'Ghost House' is all about. It makes you laugh occassionally for the initial half an hour or so and later it desperately tries to frighten you with cliched scenes and screachy noises. There is the mandatory Eerie Bungalow, woman in white,a priest who can counter the spirits and the bgm lifted from the pirates of the carribean and a dozen other english flicks which is essential for all b-grade ghost flicks. Among the protagonists ,it's only jagadish who entertains  a bit.Radhika and Nedumudi Venu are adequate while harisree asokan tries his best to irritate the audience.Alex paul has composed noises and passed them off as songs which pop out with no particular reason whatsoever, the introductory song of the four friends had some nice visuals though. But what holds the film altogether and makes it a watchable fare atleast is the climactic twist (though predictable, for atleast the sensible among the audience)and the funny blooper reel that comes towards  the end. With Pramaany,Thanthonni and Nayakan losing out in the box office, In ghost house Inn must end up as a profitable affair in the box office, not because of it's merit though.

Verdict: 5/10 Average as an opinion.

    IPL Comes to Kochi...!

    nikhimenon@gmail.com

Priyadarshan must have missed the bus, but kochi hasn't.It's confirmed  that season 4 of the country's most loved  cricket tournament will have two new teams, from Pune and Cochin respectively. As of now, very little is known about Rendezvous Sports World Limited which bagged kochi defeating Adani Group and Videocon who were also in the race. The channels have flashed some North Indian N.R.I. as the C.E.O. of Rendezvous sports whereas Sreesanth who has always been  loyal to Preity Zinta and her ex now has shifted his loyalties  to  the kerala team.

PS:   The image is in fond memory of 'City Cricketers', the Trivandrum IPL team which was to be floated by Mohanlal and Priyadarshan.

    The 'indecent' breasts...

    thought by nikhimenon@gmail.com

The Einsteins at the I&B (on whom even the C.I.A. relies upon for newer 'live'strategies in combating terror)  have come up with yet another revelation that might change even the genetics of humanity.According to a press release made by the I&B day before yesterday, women with  nude upper body are offending  good taste and decency.

Women will have mammary glands and as long as there are straight men and non-straight  women living in this planet, there will be takers for it.These are just plain facts of life and how does a woman with attractive breasts denigrate the female gender? I am pretty sure that  even the hardcore male chauvinists won't stand by Madam Ambika Sony if mass mastectomy is what she is advocating for.C'mmon, when did we become such a regressive lot? At one point we are passing Women's Reservation Bill ,for giving birth to more and more Indiras and Mayawatis(honestly,i personally believe that the whole concept of reserving seats for women will only serve to bring forth more number of Rabri Devis and P.Padmajas...). In this era when even bizarre things are at a click away ,the concern for children also seems irrevelant.By resorting to  idiotic measures like these Ambika soni and her friends seem to be going the Shiv sena way.

The most 'irritating' kids on tv....!

    nikhimenon@gmail.com

I’m fed up of watching (precocious) kids on TV who perform acts that don’t fit their age. It  seems that there’s a new belief among parents of the kids (irrespective of being in the North/South/East or West of the  nation) who perform on TV. The thicker the glasses the kid wears, the more bladder mouthed the kid is,the cuter he/she looks. First, there was that irritating girl who hosted that stupid  live phone- in -progamme which aired your 'favourite film songs' and then almost every channel started airing such shows.(Thankfully, one of those girls has started  playing  the female lead in movies..seriously request my readers not to sue her parents for 'promoting child labour or even paedophilia') Just as the TRP s started sliding a bit, they soon came up with those 'highly entertaining'  junior singing shows which were instrumental in giving Shanker Mahadevans ,Jesudases and even Himesh Reshamiyas' a run for their money!

I strongly stand for imprisoning parents of such kids who make their kids dance to the shittiest filmi songs and make them crack obscene jokes (which I bet the kids don’t understand themselves; or am I too backward?).

What do you think? Do you find the kids  ’shoo schweeeeet/cuuuuuutttteee’ or you find them annoying as I do?  Feel free to comment.

    All zz not well....!

    nikhimenon@gmail.com

A couple of months back, a guy called Atul Agnihotri  tried to make an on screen version of 'India's most loved writer,Chetan Bhagat's (atleast that's what he calls himself) 'One night @ the call centre'.The movie which was a sincere adaptation of the book(with a script written by the writer himself) bombed badly at the box office.Thankfully, chetan didn't complain then for the lack of enthusiasm shown towards his script by his beloved readers.A Few months later, an intelligent guy called Raaju Hiraani released an 'engineered' version of his own 'Munnabhai' shot in a dil chahta-yish style after buying the rights of Five Point Someone  from Chetan Bhagat (with none other than Aamir khan in the lead).Needless to say , the movie is all set to become the highest grosser in the history of Indian Cinema. Those who have read the book would definitely know that, though FPS was a good reading experience,it would never be so when transformed to screen. Most of the wit came from the funny one liners and the dialogues in the book, which can never be the same when repeated on screen.

Now, let's see whether the movie is a frame to frame copy of the book as chetan bhagat alleges it to be.

Here are the similarities of 3 Idiots and Five Point Someone:

    • The first similarity between 3 Idiots and Five Point Someoneis Alok(Raju’s character) which is very similar to that of the movie.
    • Venkat- the studios guy for whom Alok leaves his friends so that he could excel in his studies' is there in 3 Idiots as well. Alok comes back to his friends leaving Chatur when Ryan helps his sick dad. In 3 Idiots, Rancho and Pia take the dad to the hospital.
    • Neha 's   brother committed suicide due to the unrealistic expectations of  her father.

Here are the scenes that are different in 3 Idiots, which dint feature in Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone

    1. The suicide scene
    2. The scenes where Rancho gives a double everytime to make Pia understand her fiancĂ© doesn’t love her, does not feature in the book
    3. Chatur ’s chamatkar balaatkar scene is not in the book
    4. The twist before the interval
    5. The climax where Omi says that he has a meeting with a Japanese scientist not there in FPS.
    6. The invisible act of Rancho
7.Most importantly the story in Five Point Someone is about Hari who is love with the professor Cherian’s girl Neha. In this, the guy who plays Hari,is not in love with Pia (Neha). Pia is Rancho’s girlfriend. Neha has a very important role to play in Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Somone. .

So All is certainly not well for chetan bhagat and the 3 idiots team........!!!!

Lal Jose's tribute to Yousuf Ali Kecheri -'Neelathamaara 2009' is painfuly boring and hence a tiresome experience for the viewers. Most of the web reviews seem to be too much carried away by the M.T-Lal Jose combo(as they have showered praises endlessly),but it's not the same atleast in the cinema halls.

All right, i will come straight to why i found this movie as a test of my patience(Contains Spoilers)..

1.The lack of Chemistry between the lead pair...
2.Though Neelathamara is designed as the story of kunjimalu, the story never delves deep into her life.
3.The half baked character of Shaarathe Ammini. Can somebody tell me why she committed suicide? Was it because her brother molested her?
4.The cliched 'Naadan characters' of Bhaagavathar, insane genius who sits in the temple ground.
5.The better movies with similar theme like Nandanam which got released earlier.
6.Nothing really happens in the movie and even a running time of 110 minutes seemed too long ...!
7.Neither Haridaasan nor kunjimaalu made an impact
8.The lethargic pace of the movie....

    9.The  beaten -to death.story line...

Why it was not an absolute disaster for me...(again i am not saying about the b.o.performance or the general public opinion)

    1.The song Anuuraga Vilochananayi...
2.The movie had atleast it's heart in the right place....
3.Archana who played Kunjimaalu was sincere..

verdict: swa.le was more entertaining than this neelathaamara....!

An ultrashort review of the Ultimate disaster movie.....

The so called critics  (or even the wannabe ones) might have written off this movie, but  still i thought i would end my 3 month old hiatus (ofcourse from the hospital and the patients) on a lavish note by spending 50 bucks on this disaster flick .Directed by Roland Emmerich, who is better known for B-grade,yet entertaining enterprises like The Day After tomorow and Independence day, 2012 is cheesy yet thoroughly entertaining.(oops ..in all probability, this statement would flood my inbox with  'who are you to comment on this/that 'monumental' work of art ' mails....never mind, i think so..that's it.....)

Leave behind  the Mayan calender, sunspot activity, apocalypse and other  weird terminologies, forget the mandatory personal story of the failed writer (who else, john cusack),occasional cheesy dialogues and bad acting(ofcourse  quite expected  for a disaster movie) ,the great vfx and the visual spectacle it offers'  alone would make this one worth your money.

If  you let go of how unrealistic it is, you can just have fun with that want of destruction and chaos. The cilmax could have been better and the movie itself could have been easily trimmed a bit,but never mind in this present form itself it qualifies as a  great pop-corn flick.

Since i am too tired to write a lengthy review , i am concluding the review with my rating : 7/10 (it's cheesy ..un adulterated fun..go for it...)
